FUOYE Student Shares Eye Witness Account on Clash, Absolves Erelu Fayemi

Having witnessed and gathered information from what happened at FUOYE. I understand some facts

The students were protesting against lack of Electricity. It was a peaceful protest. They got informed that her Excellency Bisi Fayemi was in Oye and they wanted her to listen to thier agitation with the hope she would be the best person to pass it to the right authorities. Policemen in an attempt to prevent them from gaining access to Her Excellency, added salt to their injury by slapping FUOYE SUG president.

The protest went out-of-hand and they resorted to vandalism.

The trigger happy policemen opened fire on the angry students and killed at least two students while trying to prevent the students from going across the set line.

“The mismanagement of the issue started from the police who slapped their Union President which made the issue assume a new turn to degenerate into chaos.

It is a sad one for all the parties.

It seems the students desired to be addressed by the First Lady which she could have done but the overzealous policemen birthed the crisis.

Erelu Bisi Fayemi for who she is cannot order such a shooting. The police is poorly trained and they are the ones to blame in all this. You don’t slap a Union President and expect students to stay back. At that point, even the Union President will be unable to keep them in control again”

Is Atiku a real Nigerian by birth?

Is Atiku Abubakar Nigerian or Cameroonian? In my essay, ‘Nnamdi Kanu is right; Atiku’s Adamawa was in northern Cameroon’, I had expounded a historical argument about his origins.

I said: “On 11 February 1961, a plebiscite was held in British Cameroons to determine which parts of the territory would stay in Cameroon or align with Nigeria. While northern Cameroon favoured a union with Nigeria, southern Cameroon wanted an alignment with the mother country. On 1 June, 1961, northern Cameroon became part of Nigeria, and on 1 October 1961, the southern territory dissolved into Cameroon.

And really, much of the present day Adamawa state in Nigeria is part of the old northern Cameroon. In fact, there is a region called “Adamawa” in Cameroon today. And even the kingdom of the Lamido of Adamawa stretches into Cameroon. Atiku’s hometown, Jada, was a part of Ganye, which was the headquarters of the British Cameroons.”

However, it is ludicrous to allege that a man who became Nigeria’s vice-president, who has lived, invested and paid tax in the country for years is not a citizen. And by the way, northern Cameroon was constitutionally wedded with Nigeria in “holy matrimony”.

But when it comes down to it, no one is really a Nigerian. Awolowo says so

The protest embarked upon by students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, turned violent on Tuesday evening leaving in its trails vandalisation of properties.

Wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, who was on tour of council areas in the state, escaped being attacked by the protesters as they smashed all the vehicles in her convoy.

Sources at Oye Ekiti alleged that no fewer than two persons were feared killed in the course of the protest.

The students had got hint of the presence of the governor’s wife, as had been to two other council areas earlier.

Sources said the governor’s wife was “whisked away from the scene in a commando-like manner,” while others in her convoy scampered to safety.

However, some people, including journalists in the First Lady’s convoy, were injured in the attack.

The protesters, armed with sticks and stones, attacked unsuspecting commuters.

When the convoy of the governor’s wife arrived, they hurled stones at the vehicles.

Sources alleged that the protesters, which comprised students, hoodlums and commercial bike operators, torched a Police van and reportedly seized two rifles from policemen.

According to sources, hoodlums and commercial bike operators had joined the students in the protest over poor power situation in the two campuses of the university and the host communities.
