A baby born with a double penis could have been as a result of a twin that never formed properly, doctors believe.

The unusual case, highlighted in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, described a baby whose double penis also had a double pinpoint urethral opening so he could urinate through both.

The author of the report, Ahmed Maher Ali, and his team at the Pediatric Surgery Unit in Assiut University Children Hospital, in Assiut, Egypt, wrote: “Our case has a complete double penis with two separate scrotums.”

Their report added: “We present a newborn with double penis and double scrotum as a part of a caudal duplication syndrome (CDS) which is a condition includes duplication of the distal organs of the body.

“It is crucial to have knowledge about it to be able to be identified.

“The cause of CDS is unknown, many theories have tried to explain that, but the most accepted theory is failure of monchorial twins to separate completely.

“CDS is a very rare condition which needs [a] multidisciplinary team to manage and needs staged repair.

“Most pediatricians and pediatric surgeons are unable to diagnose it, we add a case of CDS to the literature.”

The baby, who weighed 2.6kg at birth, was also born with a double scrotum containing one palpable testis for each.

There was no initial anal orifice and surgery was needed for a low descending colostomy that revealed a duplicated colon, the report said.

They concluded: “CDS is a rare condition that needs a multidisciplinary team for its management that includes staged repair of duplications.

“In our case, we are planning to start staged repair at the age of 16 months.”

They stressed written informed consent was obtained from the patient parents for publication of this case report.

Caudal duplication syndrome (CDS) is a rare disease which encompasses a wide spectrum of anomalies and can include partial or complete duplication.

According to Science Direct, penile duplication has a frequency of one in five million births.

Man Sentenced To Death In Adawawa For Beheading His Son For N1m

An Adamawa High Court sitting in Yola on Wednesday, November 18, sentenced a cattle rearer, Bappa Alti, to death by hanging for killing his 5-year-old son for N1 million, IgbereTV reports.

The state High Court VII presided over by Justice Fatima Ahmed Tafida, convicted Bappa for causing the death of his son by hitting him with a rearing stick and thereafter chopping off his head with a cutlass.

The convict who was 24 as at the time of the incident, lured his son, Buba, to the farm on July 13, 2013 in Ganji suburb of Gombi Local Government of Adamawa State and beheaded him. 

When the convict’s father, Alhaji Guza enquired the whereabouts of his grandson, Bappa told him that he left the child behind in the farm and he would return later.

Days rolled by and the boy did not return from the farm which made Alhaji Guza to lodge a complaint at the Gombi divisional police station where a search party was commissioned.

The search led to the discovery of the beheaded decomposing body of Buba under a tree in the farm covered with leaves. Baffa was later arrested and on interrogation, he claimed that one Alhaji Sange Hassan, told him to bring a human head for N1 million.

He confessed to committing the act, saying he intended using the money to raise the status of his father, mother and his family. Alhaji Hassan, however, denied the allegation, insisting that it was a set up aimed at blackmailing his person.

Bappa Alti was earlier arraigned before court for culpable homicide punishable with death contrary to section 221 of the penal code law.

After evaluating all the evidences which include the severed head of the deceased, the cutlass used to cut off the head, and voluntary confessional statement of the accused, the presiding Judge declared that without iota of doubt, the suspect actually masterminded the killing of his son thereby committing an offence contrary to section 221 of the penal code law and therefore sentenced him to death by hanging.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Unveils First Electric Car In Nigeria

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled Nigeria’s first locally-assembled full electric car manufactured by Stallion Group, Igbere TV reports.

The Hyundai Kona car comes with zero emission, 482km driving range, and can be charged both at home and workplace.

“With an innovation of Hyundai Kona, we do not need to put the pressure on what is the pump price of oil again, what is the pump price of petroleum again,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said on Friday.

According to him, the state government will partner with Ibile Oil and Gas and other private organisations to create different charging points in the city, so that people will have where to charge the cars.

In his address, Stallion Group Managing Director Rohtagi Manish said that the innovation was a step towards an eco-friendly green Lagos.

Igbere TV learnt that the vehicle when fully charged for 9 hours 35 minutes can go a distance of 482km (the equivalent of Lagos to Warri) before it requires charging again.

Barack Obama reveals some behind the scenes glimpses of his life in the White House in his forthcoming memoir, including problems in his marriage and how the stress of the job increased his smoking habit. 

The 768-page tome, entitled ‘A Promised Land’ and out on November 17, focuses on Obama’s early political career through is first term in the White House. But the book also features some human interest stories, including the former president’s struggle to quit smoking. 

Obama admits that he would sometimes smoke eight or nine or ten cigarettes a day and look for a ‘discreet location to grab an evening smoke,’ in the memoir, a copy of which was obtained by CNN.

And he credits his eldest daughter Malia with getting him to quit, writing she ‘frowned’ at him after ‘smelling a cigarette on my breath.’

He said he ‘ceaselessly’ chewed nicotine gum to stop.

During his presidency there was endless speculation on whether or not Obama had kicked the habit, which he famously promised his wife Michelle he would do before he campaigned for president. 

Obama began smoking as a teenager and talked about his struggle to quit.

‘As a former smoker I constantly struggle with it,’ the then-president admitted during a press conference in 2009. ‘Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I daily smoker, a constant smoker? No. I don’t do it in front of my kids. I don’t do it in front of my family. And, you know, I would say that I am 95% cured, but there are times where there are times where I mess up,’ he said.

He was never caught on camera smoking during his White House tenure, but there were hints of his habit. 

In 2015, during Obama’s trip to Germany for a G-7 meeting, a spokesman for the then-Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi posted a photo online that appeared to show Obama holding a pack of cigarettes.

This is the bizarre moment a stunned diver spotted the “strangest fish in the Caribbean” walking along the seabed.

Marine expert Mickey Charteris discovered the shortnose batfish in a muddy channel near the island of Roatán, Honduras.

And despite spending years chronicling sea life in the region, he said the oddball creature is the weirdest of the lot.

“It’s hands down the strangest fish in the Caribbean,” he said after spotting the freak of nature skipping through a gulley called French Key Cut.

“It walks slowly searching for prey like crabs and small fishes, but can swim with its tail if it gets spooked. “It resembles a lump of brown sponge that mated with a unicorn.”
